Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One) in Kenya

A fast, funny open-world shooter for Xbox One where movement is as important as aiming.

Sunset Overdrive is an open-world action shooter from Insomniac Games for Xbox One in which you grind on rails, bounce off cars and blast mutants in a city overrun by a bad energy drink. Available in Kenya from City Gadgets Kenya, this page is for shoppers searching "Sunset Overdrive Xbox One", "Sunset Overdrive Kenya", "Insomniac Xbox One game", "open world shooter Xbox One", "buy Xbox One games Nairobi", "funny shooter Xbox One" or "Xbox One games Kenya".

Many shooters ask you to hide behind walls. Sunset Overdrive asks you to keep moving. It is bright, loud, funny and quick, and it is one of the more original games made for the Xbox One.

Key specs at a glance

Specifications come from published manufacturer and retail specification sheets. Gaming accessories are sold in several versions with different colours, model codes and platform labels, so please ask our team to confirm the exact model, colour and version in stock before you pay.

What's in the box

What Sunset Overdrive is

Sunset Overdrive was made by Insomniac Games, the studio behind Ratchet and Clank and Spyro, and released on the Xbox One in 2014. It is set in Sunset City, where a new energy drink has turned most of the population into mutants. You play a survivor who fights back, and the game treats the end of the world with jokes, bright colours and a loud attitude. People who search for "Sunset Overdrive Xbox One" or "open world shooter Xbox One" are usually looking for something different from a serious war game.

The game was released as an exclusive for the Xbox One and has stayed popular with players who like its style. If you want a shooter that is more playful than grim, it is a strong option.

Movement is the star

The most important idea is traversal. You can grind along rails and power lines, bounce off cars and awnings, run along walls and glide through the air. You rarely touch the ground. This makes fights more about positioning than about hiding, because staying in motion keeps you safe from the swarms below.

Once you master movement, combat becomes a flow. You jump, grind, shoot and bounce in one chain, and the game rewards you with style bonuses and stronger attacks. It takes some practice, but when it clicks, it is a great feeling.

Weapons and abilities

The weapons are inventive and often absurd. They are designed to be fun rather than realistic, and you can upgrade them as you play. Alongside the guns, you unlock abilities called amps that change how you fight, adding effects such as fire, lightning or ice to your attacks. Combining amps and weapons lets you build a play style that suits you.

Because the game rewards variety, try different weapons and amps instead of using the same one throughout.

Story and humour

The story is a comedy about survival. Characters break the fourth wall, talk directly to the player and make jokes about game design. If you enjoy irreverent humour, you will like the tone. If you prefer serious stories, this will not be your game. The writing is aimed at adults, and it includes strong language and cartoon violence.

The campaign takes many hours, and there are side activities in the open world that add more.

Chaos Squad: playing with others

Alongside the campaign, the game offers an online mode called Chaos Squad, in which up to eight players team up to defend areas against waves of mutants. Online play needs an internet connection and, generally, an online subscription. It is a good way to play with friends once you have finished the main story, or to join in while you learn the game.

If you mostly play alone, the campaign alone is worth the purchase.

Is it suitable for children?

The game has a mature rating on the case. It features cartoon violence, strong language and adult humour, and it is not suitable for young children. Parents should check the rating and use Xbox family settings. Adults and older teenagers who enjoy comedy shooters will find it fun.

Playing it on your Xbox

This is an Xbox One game that normally runs on Series X and Series S through backward compatibility, and the movement can feel smoother on newer hardware. A Series S has no disc drive, so ask us for a digital option if you own one. Check your free storage before you install, and keep your console on a surge-protected extension.

A TV with a low response time makes fast movement easier to follow, and a comfortable controller helps you through long sessions.

Getting started: your first hours

Spend your first hour just moving. Grind on rails, bounce on cars and practise jumping between buildings, without worrying about shooting. When you feel comfortable, start using weapons while in motion. Aim at enemies as you glide, and use the environment to stay out of reach.

Do not be afraid to experiment. The game gives you many options for upgrades, and you can adjust your style as you discover what you like.

Common questions before buying

Is it a good solo game? Yes. The campaign is built for a single player and takes many hours.

Is there online co-op? Yes, in a separate mode for up to eight players.

Do I need Xbox online for that? Online play generally needs an online subscription.

Is it suitable for children? No. It has a mature rating, so check the case.

Is it a disc or a digital code? We confirm this for the specific unit before you pay.

Does it work on a Series S? A digital copy can run on a Series S through backward compatibility, but a disc cannot, because the Series S has no disc drive.

Questions we hear often about Xbox games in Kenya

• Is it safe to buy a game from a shop in town? It is safe if you buy from a seller who shows you the item, gives you a receipt and explains the terms. We tell you whether the stock is a disc or a digital code, and which edition, before you pay.

• Will this game work on my Xbox? That depends on your console and on the edition. Tell us whether you own an Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Series X or Series S, and we will confirm. A Series S has no disc drive, so a disc will not play on it.

• Do you deliver in Nairobi and outside? Yes. Orders confirmed before 3pm are delivered the same day in Nairobi, and outside Nairobi we deliver by courier, typically 1 to 3 business days after dispatch. The delivery charge is confirmed before you pay, and M-Pesa is accepted.

• Is the game new? We list new items and show you the sealed pack. If a pack looks opened or damaged, tell us before you pay.

• Can you recommend what else I need? Tell us your console, your storage space and your budget. We would rather recommend one good game than sell you several you will not finish.

Choosing the right accessories

A game this fast is easier with a comfortable controller. If your controller is worn, with sticks that drift or buttons that stick, you will notice it during long grinds and quick turns. Thumbstick grips can help your precision, and a charging station keeps your controller ready. A headset also helps with the audio, since the soundtrack and the voice acting are a big part of the fun. Ask our sales team about controllers, grips and headsets for your Xbox.

If you share the console with family, set up separate profiles so that each player keeps their own progress, and so that younger players cannot reach adult games without permission.

Why this game still feels fresh

Many shooters from the same period copied one another, with similar cover systems and similar grey cities. Sunset Overdrive went in a different direction, and that is why players still talk about it. The bright colours, the quick movement and the jokes make it feel alive, and the traversal system is a real idea rather than a decoration.

If you have played a lot of serious shooters and want a change of mood, this is an easy recommendation. If you have never played an open-world shooter, it is also a friendly starting point, because the game gives you freedom to move away from danger instead of punishing every mistake.

We are glad to answer questions about the game, the edition and your console. Call or WhatsApp our sales team on 0745 575 931, and we will help you decide.

A word on value

Sunset Overdrive offers many hours of play for one purchase, with a long campaign, side activities in the open world and an online mode for friends. For a household that shares one console, a game that different family members can enjoy in turns is good value. Just remember the adult humour and keep it for the right audience.

If you are unsure, call or WhatsApp our sales team on 0745 575 931 with the model of your Xbox and what you like to play, and we will tell you honestly whether this game suits you.

Playing Xbox games in a Kenyan home

Most Xbox owners in Kenya play on a console in a sitting room or bedroom, often shared by family members of different ages. A few practical habits make the experience better. Plug the console into a surge-protected extension, because Kenya's power can spike when it returns after an outage, and keep the console where air can flow around it, never in a closed cabinet. Dust is a constant, so wipe the console and controller with a dry cloth and keep discs in their cases.

Games take space. Many modern games are tens of gigabytes, and an older game can still receive large updates. If your console is almost full, delete finished games and keep only those you play. A game you delete can be installed again later, as long as you have the disc or the licence, and your saved progress is kept on the console or in the cloud when you are signed in to your Xbox account.

Which Xbox does this game play on?

Xbox games are made for particular generations of console, and it helps to know yours. The Xbox One family includes the original Xbox One, the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. The Xbox Series family includes the Series X, which has a disc drive, and the Series S, which has no disc drive. Many Xbox One games also run on the Series consoles through backward compatibility, and some run better there. Games made for the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox are a separate matter, and only some of them run on newer consoles.

The most important practical point is the disc drive. A Series S cannot read discs at all, so a disc version of a game is useless on a Series S, and you would need a digital version instead. If you own a Series S, tell us before you buy. If you own a Series X, an Xbox One S or an original Xbox One, discs work, subject to the compatibility listed on this page.

We list each game for the platform named on its page. Whether the item in stock is a disc or a digital code, and which edition, is confirmed per unit, so ask us before you pay and we will tell you plainly.

Online play, updates and your Xbox account

Some features need an internet connection. Online multiplayer on Xbox normally needs an Xbox account and, for most online multiplayer games, an active Xbox online subscription. Updates and patches download over your home connection. In Kenya, a fixed home fibre or a stable router connection is better than mobile data for large downloads, and you should check your data bundle before you start a large update.

Keep your account details private. Never share your password with a seller or a stranger. We do not need your account password to sell you a game, and you should be cautious about anyone who asks for it.

Age ratings and family settings

Games carry age ratings, such as ESRB and PEGI ratings, which guide whether a game suits a child. A rating is a general guide and does not replace a parent's judgement. Xbox has family settings that let a parent set age limits for games, set screen-time limits and manage spending. If children play on your console, take ten minutes to set up a child account, and talk with them about online safety, including not sharing personal details and what to do if a stranger is rude.

How to check your game when it is delivered

1. Inspect the packaging for damage before you sign. A disc game should be in a clean case with an unscratched disc.
2. Check that the title, the platform logo and the edition match what we confirmed with you.
3. If it is a disc, look at the disc surface for scratches, and check that the case includes the disc and any inserts we confirmed.
4. If it is a digital code, check that the code arrives intact and has not been used, and redeem it on your own account as soon as you can.
5. Install the game on your console and play for a few minutes, so that any problem shows up while you can still tell us.
6. Contact our Customer Relations team on 0794 488 806 straight away if anything is wrong.

How to avoid fake or unsuitable games

Game discs and codes can be copied or sold in the wrong region. Watch for these signs.

• Check the packaging and the print. Blurry artwork, spelling mistakes, a missing platform logo or a missing rating label are warnings.
• Check the disc. A genuine disc has sharp printing and consistent markings. A hand-written or blank disc is not genuine.
• Check the region and language. Some versions may be locked to a region or lack a language you want, so ask us.
• Watch the price. A price far below the market for a recent game is a reason to ask why.
• Be wary of shared accounts. Be careful of any offer to share an account instead of selling you a game of your own, because accounts can be recovered by their owners and you may lose access.
• Buy from a seller with an address. Choose a seller who gives a receipt and explains the warranty, and avoid paying a stranger before you have seen the product.

Warranty and stock

Warranty and return terms for games depend on the format and the seller, and opened games and redeemed codes are generally not returnable unless they are faulty. We confirm the format, the platform and the exact terms in writing for the specific item before you pay, and Customer Relations on 0794 488 806 handles questions after purchase. Keep your receipt and the case.

Strengths and limits

What we like:

• Fast, fluid movement unlike most shooters
• Funny and colourful
• Inventive weapons and upgrades
• A long single-player campaign
• Online co-op for friends

What to keep in mind:

• Adult humour and strong language
• Movement takes practice
• Online co-op needs a connection and a subscription
• Style will not suit players who want a serious tone

Who should buy the Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One)

• Players who want a playful, fast shooter
• Fans of Insomniac games
• Adults who like irreverent humour
• Anyone who wants something different from realistic war games

Who should look elsewhere

• Young children
• Players who want a serious story
• Owners of a Series S who cannot use discs, unless we supply a digital code

Compare before you buy

Compared with a realistic shooter. Realistic shooters are about cover and precision. Sunset Overdrive is about motion and style.

Compared with other open-world games. Many open-world games are about driving or walking. Here you move by grinding and bouncing, which gives the city its own feel.
