Forza Horizon 5 is an open-world racing game from Playground Games for Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, set across a large and varied version of Mexico. Available in Kenya from City Gadgets Kenya, this page is for shoppers searching "Forza Horizon 5 Xbox", "Forza Horizon 5 Kenya", "FH5 Xbox One", "racing game Xbox One", "open world racing game", "buy Xbox games Nairobi" or "Xbox games Kenya".

Forza Horizon 5 is among the most popular racing games on Xbox. It is bright, generous and easy to enjoy, whether you love cars or just like driving fast through beautiful places.

Key specs at a glance

Specifications come from published manufacturer and retail specification sheets. Gaming accessories are sold in several versions with different colours, model codes and platform labels, so please ask our team to confirm the exact model, colour and version in stock before you pay.

What's in the box

What Forza Horizon 5 is

Forza Horizon 5 was released in November 2021 by Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios for the Xbox One, the Xbox Series X and S and PC. It is part of a series of festival-style racing games in which you take part in a huge motoring festival, this time set in Mexico. People who search for "Forza Horizon 5 Xbox" or "racing game Xbox One" are usually looking for a big, friendly racing game that suits both newcomers and car fans.

The key idea is freedom. You are not locked into a track. You drive around an open world, find events, join races, and build your festival as you like.

The setting: a varied Mexico

The map brings together deserts, jungles, wetlands, farmland, coastlines, towns, ancient ruins and a huge volcano. The scenery changes with the seasons and the weather, so a road can feel different from week to week in the game. Driving across the map is a pleasure in itself, and the game often rewards you for exploring.

The variety of terrain matters, because it affects the cars. A road car handles well on tarmac, but a rally or off-road car is better on dirt and sand. This gives you a reason to own different types of vehicle.

Cars: hundreds to collect

The game features hundreds of cars, from small hatchbacks and classic cars to supercars, trucks and rally machines. You earn money and credits through racing and events, and you use them to buy cars and upgrade them. You can tune performance, change the look with paint and body kits and design your own liveries.

Car lovers can spend hours in the garage. Casual players can just pick a car they like the look of and go driving.

Events and the festival

Events include road races, dirt races, cross-country races, street scenes and stunt challenges. As you complete them, you unlock more festival sites and more event types. The campaign is built as a series of goals that move you around the map and introduce new car types.

The tone is relaxed and cheerful. There are no complicated storylines, just a festival atmosphere, friendly characters and a great soundtrack with radio stations to suit different tastes.

Driving help for every skill level

The game has driving assists that make it easy for beginners. You can switch on steering help, braking help and a racing line that shows the best path through a corner. As you improve, you can turn these off for more challenge. Difficulty can be adjusted for the computer-controlled rivals, so the game stays fun at your level.

A controller is enough to play well, and the game supports racing wheels for those who own one. A wheel adds realism, but it is not necessary.

Online play and co-op

Forza Horizon 5 includes online features. You can race against other players, join team events and take part in shared challenges, and some modes let friends play in the same world. Online play needs an internet connection and, on Xbox, generally an online subscription. Kenyan home internet can vary, so a wired connection is steadier than Wi-Fi.

The single-player game is complete without any online play, so you can enjoy it fully offline once it is installed and updated.

Is it suitable for children?

Racing games are popular with young players, and Forza Horizon 5 is among the more family-friendly games on our list. Check the age rating on the case, as always, and be aware that online features involve other players. Use Xbox family settings if younger children will play.

Xbox One and Series X and S

This game runs on the Xbox One and on the Xbox Series X and S. On the Series consoles it generally runs with better performance, sharper graphics and faster loading. It is a very large game, so check your free storage before you buy. A disc version may still need a large install, and a digital version needs a long download.

A Series S has no disc drive, so a disc will not play on it, and you would need a digital copy. We confirm the format and the edition before you pay, including whether it is the standard edition or a version that includes extra content.

Getting started: your first hours

Begin with the opening events, which teach you the controls and show you the festival. Choose a car you like the look of, and take it for a drive around the map. Try the driving assists at first, then adjust them as you improve. Explore the different regions, because each offers its own scenery and event types.

Spend some of your earnings on upgrades, especially tyres and suspension, which make a big difference to handling.

Looking after your console during long drives

Racing games encourage long sessions. Keep your console in a ventilated place, plug it into a surge-protected extension, and take breaks to rest your eyes and hands. If you use a racing wheel, make sure it is firmly mounted. Keep drinks away from the console and the controller.

Common questions before buying

Is this the Xbox One version? The game runs on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S. We confirm the format and edition in stock.

Do I need Xbox online? Not for the single-player game. Online play generally needs a subscription.

Can I use a steering wheel? Yes, the game supports racing wheels, but a controller works well.

Is it a long game? Yes. There are many hours of events, and the open world invites you to keep exploring.

Is it a disc or a digital code? We confirm this for the specific unit before you pay.

Does it work on a Series S? A digital copy works. A disc does not, because the Series S has no disc drive.

Questions we hear often about Xbox games in Kenya

• Is it safe to buy a game from a shop in town? It is safe if you buy from a seller who shows you the item, gives you a receipt and explains the terms. We tell you whether the stock is a disc or a digital code, and which edition, before you pay.

• Will this game work on my Xbox? That depends on your console and on the edition. Tell us whether you own an Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Series X or Series S, and we will confirm. A Series S has no disc drive, so a disc will not play on it.

• Do you deliver in Nairobi and outside? Yes. Orders confirmed before 3pm are delivered the same day in Nairobi, and outside Nairobi we deliver by courier, typically 1 to 3 business days after dispatch. The delivery charge is confirmed before you pay, and M-Pesa is accepted.

• Is the game new? We list new items and show you the sealed pack. If a pack looks opened or damaged, tell us before you pay.

• Can you recommend what else I need? Tell us your console, your storage space and your budget. We would rather recommend one good game than sell you several you will not finish.

Choosing between a disc and a digital copy

A disc can be lent to a friend and kept as a physical item, but it needs a console with a disc drive and still installs a large amount of data. A digital copy is tied to your account and works on every console, including the Series S, but you cannot lend it. If you have a Series S, a digital copy is your only choice.

Tell us which suits you, and we will confirm what is in stock. We also confirm whether the stock is the standard edition or one that includes extra content, since extras differ between editions.

Accessories that improve the experience

A comfortable controller makes long drives easier, and a charging station keeps spare batteries ready. A headset helps you hear engines and the soundtrack, and is useful for online team events. If you are serious about racing, a steering wheel and pedals add realism, though they take space and money. We stock gaming accessories, so ask our sales team for advice that suits your console and your budget.

Whatever you choose, keep the volume at a safe level and take regular breaks.

What to check when your game arrives

Look at the cover and the case. The title should say Forza Horizon 5, and the platform logo should match your console. Check that the disc is clean and that the case contains the disc. If you bought a digital code, redeem it on your own account promptly. Install the game, which may take a while, and drive for a few minutes to confirm everything works. Contact Customer Relations on 0794 488 806 straight away if anything is wrong.

Playing Xbox games in a Kenyan home

Most Xbox owners in Kenya play on a console in a sitting room or bedroom, often shared by family members of different ages. A few practical habits make the experience better. Plug the console into a surge-protected extension, because Kenya's power can spike when it returns after an outage, and keep the console where air can flow around it, never in a closed cabinet. Dust is a constant, so wipe the console and controller with a dry cloth and keep discs in their cases.

Games take space. Many modern games are tens of gigabytes, and an older game can still receive large updates. If your console is almost full, delete finished games and keep only those you play. A game you delete can be installed again later, as long as you have the disc or the licence, and your saved progress is kept on the console or in the cloud when you are signed in to your Xbox account.

Which Xbox does this game play on?

Xbox games are made for particular generations of console, and it helps to know yours. The Xbox One family includes the original Xbox One, the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. The Xbox Series family includes the Series X, which has a disc drive, and the Series S, which has no disc drive. Many Xbox One games also run on the Series consoles through backward compatibility, and some run better there. Games made for the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox are a separate matter, and only some of them run on newer consoles.

The most important practical point is the disc drive. A Series S cannot read discs at all, so a disc version of a game is useless on a Series S, and you would need a digital version instead. If you own a Series S, tell us before you buy. If you own a Series X, an Xbox One S or an original Xbox One, discs work, subject to the compatibility listed on this page.

We list each game for the platform named on its page. Whether the item in stock is a disc or a digital code, and which edition, is confirmed per unit, so ask us before you pay and we will tell you plainly.

Online play, updates and your Xbox account

Some features need an internet connection. Online multiplayer on Xbox normally needs an Xbox account and, for most online multiplayer games, an active Xbox online subscription. Updates and patches download over your home connection. In Kenya, a fixed home fibre or a stable router connection is better than mobile data for large downloads, and you should check your data bundle before you start a large update.

Keep your account details private. Never share your password with a seller or a stranger. We do not need your account password to sell you a game, and you should be cautious about anyone who asks for it.

Age ratings and family settings

Games carry age ratings, such as ESRB and PEGI ratings, which guide whether a game suits a child. A rating is a general guide and does not replace a parent's judgement. Xbox has family settings that let a parent set age limits for games, set screen-time limits and manage spending. If children play on your console, take ten minutes to set up a child account, and talk with them about online safety, including not sharing personal details and what to do if a stranger is rude.

How to check your game when it is delivered

1. Inspect the packaging for damage before you sign. A disc game should be in a clean case with an unscratched disc.
2. Check that the title, the platform logo and the edition match what we confirmed with you.
3. If it is a disc, look at the disc surface for scratches, and check that the case includes the disc and any inserts we confirmed.
4. If it is a digital code, check that the code arrives intact and has not been used, and redeem it on your own account as soon as you can.
5. Install the game on your console and play for a few minutes, so that any problem shows up while you can still tell us.
6. Contact our Customer Relations team on 0794 488 806 straight away if anything is wrong.

How to avoid fake or unsuitable games

Game discs and codes can be copied or sold in the wrong region. Watch for these signs.

• Check the packaging and the print. Blurry artwork, spelling mistakes, a missing platform logo or a missing rating label are warnings.
• Check the disc. A genuine disc has sharp printing and consistent markings. A hand-written or blank disc is not genuine.
• Check the region and language. Some versions may be locked to a region or lack a language you want, so ask us.
• Watch the price. A price far below the market for a recent game is a reason to ask why.
• Be wary of shared accounts. Be careful of any offer to share an account instead of selling you a game of your own, because accounts can be recovered by their owners and you may lose access.
• Buy from a seller with an address. Choose a seller who gives a receipt and explains the warranty, and avoid paying a stranger before you have seen the product.

Warranty and stock

Warranty and return terms for games depend on the format and the seller, and opened games and redeemed codes are generally not returnable unless they are faulty. We confirm the format, the platform and the exact terms in writing for the specific item before you pay, and Customer Relations on 0794 488 806 handles questions after purchase. Keep your receipt and the case.

Strengths and limits

What we like:

• A huge, beautiful open world
• Hundreds of cars to collect and tune
• Friendly to beginners with adjustable driving help
• Works offline for single-player
• Runs on Xbox One and Series X and S

What to keep in mind:

• Very large install
• Online play needs a connection and a subscription
• Needs a day of updates after install
• Not a strict simulation, so purists may want something more realistic

Who should buy the Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S)

• Anyone who likes racing games
• Families that want a game most members can enjoy
• Car fans who like collecting and tuning
• Players who want a big game that works offline

Who should look elsewhere

• Players who want a strict racing simulator
• Consoles with little free storage
• Owners of a Series S who cannot use discs, unless we supply a digital code

Compare before you buy

Compared with a track-based racing game. Track-based games focus on lap times and precision. Forza Horizon 5 focuses on freedom and fun.

Compared with GTA V. Both are open-world games with driving, but Forza Horizon 5 is entirely about cars and has a lighter tone.
